Heart Transplant

The Heart Transplant Page

I had a Heart Transplant 33 years ago when I was in my early 30's. I hope on this page to tell the story as I have time. I have been the poster child for organ transplant for many years and I hope to be an inspiration to those facing similar circumstances.

1 It's just a cough....

I am in my late 20's, I am working and I had just bought a small house in Redwing. In those days, you could buy a VA foreclosure and just take over the payments. I feel for those trying to afford a house today.

Anyway, I was doing the normal house chores such as mowing the lawn etc. I had this cough that would just not go away. It got to the point where I could not lie flat. I had to sleep at night in a chair. I finally decided to go to the Doc in a Box around the corner. I figured I just needed an antibiotic.

So i go to the Doc. They do a routine exam including a chest Xray. They check me out and tell me to wait in the waiting room. After a while the doc comes out with the huge Xray film and says " I made an appointment with a Cardiologist, I want you to take this Xray and go straight there. Do not go home."

I get in the car and think, what the hell is wrong with me???....
